Our Story

Twenty five years ago I went from being a stay at home mother raising 6 children to a single mother having to rejoin the workforce. I eventually found a job in the Baltimore County Public School system working with children with special needs. I was making minimum wage, which ended up being quite a challenge to provide for my family.

We had wonderful support from extended family and friends who were there to help in any way they could. I was trying to think of ways to thank them. Then one day as I was preparing dinner, I decided to double the recipe and started making dinners for the people in my life to say thank you for all of their help.

This turned into “Debbie Does Dinner”. I put out a monthly menu for customers who wanted to order a home cooked dinner that came with a desert. One of my cakes in particular, the Cinnamon Hot Milk Cake became a favorite. This led to some of my customers placing orders for just this cake.

In 2008 Tark’s Grill opened and they started with the Coconut Pound Cake and the Cinnamon Hot Milk cake followed shortly after.

At that point, “Debbie Does Dinner” closed its doors and “The Lovin’ Oven Cake Company” was open for business!

Many people ask about the significance of the ladybug on my logo. When all of these changes took place in my life over 20 years ago, I began collecting ladybugs as I was told they are a sign of good luck. I designed a heart shaped ladybug because of all of the “lovin” in my heart I have for my 6 children. The six black dots on the ladybug represents each one of them.
